LIVERPOOL, England: Swansea hung on with 10 men for the last 20 minutes to earn a 0-0 draw at Everton on Saturday in the Premier League.
Jonjo Shelvey was sent off with a second booking after blocking the path of James McCarthy in the 72nd minute, but the hosts couldn't make the most of their numerical advantage as Swansea sat back to defend.
Everton did create late pressure but Steven Pienaar had a shot deflected wide and substitute Romelu Lukaku failed to connect with a cross in stoppage-time.
Before the sending off, the game was largely a timid affair with Swansea perhaps squandering the best chance when Wilfried Bony shot wide early on.
Everton did have some clear-cut chances but Lukasz Fabianksi did not have to make a significant save.
Swansea is sixth on 15 points, two points ahead of Everton.
