Lisbon, Portugal : Sporting Lisbon thrashed 10-man Academica 4-0 Saturday, extending its strong start to the Portuguese league with its second impressive win.
Forward Andre Carillo got Sporting rolling at Academica with a goal in the 23rd minute, scoring a cross from Wilson Eduardo.
Defender Marcos Rojo made it 2-0 for the hosts in the 41st before Academica's Marcelo Goiano was sent off with a second booking for fouling Jefferson Nascimento in the area.
Adrien Silva converted the resulting penalty kick in the 54th, and Fredy Montero capped the victory with another spot kick four minutes later.
Sporting routed Arouca 5-1 in its league opener last weekend. Also on Saturday, Olhanense beat Pacos Ferreira 1-0.
