Before the thunderous opening of the World Cup football here on June 11, a musical concert will be held in which Shakira and other renowned singers will perform.

This music festival announcing the inauguration of sensational contests of the World Cup will be telecast all over the world live from the stadium at Soweto. The stadium has a sitting capacity of over 30,000 people.

Famous Columbian singer Shakira, John Legend, Emmy Award-winner Angelique Kidjo, Alicia Keys along with other rising singers will perform at the concert to be held on June 10, a day before the start of the World Cup. Popular African band Black Eyed Peas and Tinariwen will also display their art on the occasion.

According to Jerome Valcke, football's governing body of FIFA, the pop concert would serve as a testament to the universal and unifying power of football and music. People are excited and thrilled to have such a concert with famous performing talents who will raise the curtain on the first FIFA World Cup in Africa.

The concert will officially “kick off” 2010 World Cup football tournament on the eve of the event which will be produced by Kevin Wall, Emmy Award-winner, and his company Control Room.The year 2010 will mark the first time FIFA World Cup which will be played in Africa.

Proceeds from the concert will be spent on health, education besides football training in Africa.
