Glasgow, Scotland, Aug 11:  Scotland beat Denmark for the first time since 1975, with Robert Snodgrass scoring his first international goal on his first start to clinch a 2-1 victory on Wednesday.

Snodgrass headed in Kenny Miller's cross just before halftime at a rain-soaked Hampden Park.

Snodgrass “and Danny (Wilson) did very well,” Scotland coach Craig Levein said. “The purpose of this was to see if they could handle this type of game and they passed with flying colors.

“I'm delighted for Robert to score a goal and for Danny to play in a defense which lost only one goal against a top, top side.”

Scotland went in front in the 23rd minute when Charlie Adam's free kick deflected into the net off William Kvist Jorgensen.

The visitors leveled in the 31st when Christian Eriksen's free kick from the left flank flew over the goalkeeper's head.

“In the first half we played with five players who do not play much club football,” Denmark coach Morten Olsen said. “It is different if you have to win the game. If we had to win that game you would look at it with different eyes. Scotland played some good football but it was an own goal and mistake for their goals.

“In the second half we had four or five good opportunities and Scotland had nothing. So it was irritating but I can live with that.”

The loss is a setback to Denmark's preparations for its final 2012 European Championship qualifiers, with the team second in Group H—only behind Portugal on goal difference.

Scotland is third in Group I, 11 points behind leader Spain.  AP
