Dubi, May 23: Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli reached the Asian Champions League quarterfinals after beating host Al Jazira 4-2 on penalties Tuesday, while Sepahan advanced by winning 2-0 over fellow Iranian side Esteghlal.

Former Australia captain Lucas Neill and Ricardo Oliveira both missed penalties for Al Jazira, while Al Ahli converted all four of its spot kicks.

The game had ended 2-2 after regulation, and Oliveira then thought he had given his team the victory with his second goal of the game in the 114th.

But Victor Simoes equalized in the 118th to send the game to a shootout.

The visitors took a 23rd-minute lead through Marcelo Ramiro Camacho, but Oliveira equalized nine minutes later.

Al Jazira then went in front through Matias Delgado in the 62nd, only for Imad Ali Al Hosni to restore parity in the 74th.

In Tuesday's other round of 16 game, Bruno Cesar Correa and Mohsen Bengar scored in the first half for newly crowned Iranian league champion Sepahan to eliminate Esteghlal.

Correa netted from close range in the eighth minute, and Bengar headed in the second in the 35th.

Esteghlal struggled throughout, and failed to create a single clear scoring opportunity.
