Mexico City, May 14: Santos Laguna drew 2-2 with Tigres on Sunday to book a spot against Monterrey for Mexico's first-division championship.
Oribe Peralta scored two late goals to rally Santos to the draw with Tigres. The teams drew 3-3 on aggregate over two legs, but Santos advances to the final because of a better record in the Clausura season—the second half of Mexico's split season.
Monterrey defeated America 2-0 on Saturday to advance 2-0 on aggregate from its semifinal.
The first leg is expected to be on Thursday with the second on Sunday, although the Mexican federation has not made it official. The first leg will be played in Monterrey with Santos Laguna hosting the return leg.
The final will be contested over two legs and offers Santos a chance for revenge after its 3-2 loss to Monterrey last month in a two-game CONCACAF Champions League final.
Peralta scored in the 86th and 89th minutes after Chilean Hertor Mancilla gave Tigres a 1-0 lead with an early header and made it 2-0 in the 26th.
This will be Santos' fourth final in the last five seasons. It has lost the previous three.
Although there is no clear favorite in the final, Monterrey coach Victor Manuel Vucetich has made it to 12 finals in his managerial career and has won every one, including five Mexican first-division titles.
On Saturday, Jose Maria Basanta opened the scoring for Monterrey in the 9th minute, with Aldo de Nigris adding the second in the 53rd in the victory over America. The field was wet from heavy rain before the kickoff and players found it difficult to control the ball.
The teams drew 0-0 in the first leg at the Estadio Azteca on Wednesday.
The two finalists are rivals from the northern cities of Monterrey and Torreon, which are located just 350 kilometers (220 miles) apart. Both are attacking teams and scored the largest number of goals in the regular season.
