Rome, Sept 23: Roma conceded a late equalizer to draw 1-1 with promoted Siena on Thursday and remain winless under its new Spanish coach Luis Enrique.

Roberto Vitiello equalized in the 88th minute for Siena with the Tuscan club's first goal in three matches this season.

Newly signed Argentine forward Pablo Osvaldo had put Roma ahead, steering home a cross from Marco Borriello in the 25th at the Stadio Olimpico.

Formerly Barcelona's B-team coach, Enrique has brought a radical new approach to Roma, prizing exciting play like the European champion. But it's taking some time for Roma to adapt, and the squad is yet to win after its opening five matches—including a Europa League playoff loss to Slovan Bratislava.

“I'm worried about our lack of confidence,” Enrique said. “We weren't able to play the way we wanted to and we seemed afraid. But that's normal when you haven't got your first win yet. ... We have to improve.”

Roma and Siena each have two points, five behind Serie A leaders Genoa, Juventus and Udinese.

Under new American ownership, Roma spent £58 million ($80 million) - the most in Italy - in the offseason on a long list of new players, but the likes of Osvaldo, Bojan Krcic, Erik Lamela and Miralem Pjanic have yet to form a cohesive group.

Roma played solidly in a 0-0 draw at Inter Milan last weekend, and got off to a good start against Siena before struggling to contain the Tuscan club's counterattack.

Vitiello pounced on the rebound after Franco Brienza's shot hit the post to score his first goal in the top division.

“Siena had a strong second half and we had problems finishing,” Enrique said. AP
