Abuja, Nigeria, Oct 9: The Nigeria Football Federation has asked national coach Samson Siasia to explain the country's failure to qualify for next year's African Cup of Nations.
The NFF on Saturday gave Siasia 48 hours to answer questions over Nigeria's elimination following a 2-2 home draw with Guinea, which saw the Guineans progress at the expense of the two-time African champions.
The NFF called an emergency meeting following the match and says in a statement Sunday that Siasia must “explain the Super Eagles' poor performance in the qualifying series.”
Siasia, a former Nigeria international and Cup of Nations winner in 1994, apologized for the failure.
Former champions Egypt, Cameroon and South Africa will also miss the African Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. AP
