SALVADOR, Brazil : The Netherlands and Costa Rica are heading to extra time after staying even at 0-0 through 90 minutes of play Saturday in the World Cup quarterfinals.
Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas kept his team in the match with a string of great first-half saves. Wesley Sneijder had one of the best chances for the Dutch team in the 80th minute, beating Navas with a free kick, but the shot hit the post.
The Costa Ricans played with five defenders and almost no attacking intent at the Arena Fonte Nova, largely shutting down the Dutch strike force, which has been averaging three goals per game in Brazil. And when the Dutch did break through, Navas was there.
