London: Former Manchester United manager David Moyes Thursday admitted banning potato chips during his short stint at Old Trafford.

Moyes said he had banned the consumption of wafers because he felt some players were overweight.

"Yes, I did ban chips. It was because a couple of players were overweight and I didn't think chips were good for their diet," Moyes was quoted as saying by fourfourtwo.com.

The 51-year-old lasted 10 months of his six-year contract at Manchester United.

Eating low-fat chips was, however, heavily practised as a pre-match ritual when Alex Ferguson was in-charge of the ‘Red Devils'. Moyes also faced criticism from former defender Rio Ferdinand in his autobiography for banning the practice.
