London, May 27: Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been banned for six months, backdated to March when he was provisionally suspended for a positive doping test.
The ban issued by the English Football Association on Thursday was backdated to March 2, when the doping test came back positive for "a specified substance."
The test was administered after the Manchester derby on Feb. 12. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said Toure took a diet pill belonging to the player's wife.
The FA added that Toure will be specially tested for the next two years. AP
