Dublin, May 29: Kevin Foley became the second player to be sent home from Ireland's training camp in Italy with an injury, ruling him out of the squad for the European Championship.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender was unable to fully shake off a hamstring problem and was replaced in the 23-man group on Tuesday by Paul McShane.
"Although Kevin has been recovering well, I have made the difficult decision to leave him out of the 23-player list after completing fitness tests on John O'Shea and Paul McShane this morning," Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni said. "I have spoken to him and understand how difficult it is, saying that he can remain with the squad if he wishes."
Keith Fahey was withdrawn from the squad on Saturday after pulling up with a groin injury during the 1-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina, and replaced by Paul Green.
Trapattoni submitted his final squad to UEFA on Tuesday and included goalkeeper Shay Given and O'Shea, who have had fitness worries in recent weeks.
Ireland is in Group C at the Euros, which start on June 8, with Italy, Spain and Croatia.
