Buenos Aires, Mar 12:  Last-placed Independiente stunned Boca Juniors 5-4 in an incredible game in La Bombonera stadium Sunday, handing the Argentine champions their first league defeat in 34 games.

Ernesto Farias completed his hat trick with two late goals for Independiente, heading in the equalizer in the 89th minute and getting the winner in the 5th minute of second half injury time.

Boca, which had been trailing 3-1, looked like cruising to victory after launching a comeback and taking the lead in the 75th minute.

The loss could put pressure on Boca coach Julio Cesar Falcioni after his team also lost 2-1 against Brazil's Fluminense on Wednesday in the Copa Libertadores, also in La Bombonera, making it two losses in two games for the famous Buenos Aires club.

In Sunday's other round five matches in Argentina's Clausura tournament, Tigre defeated Banfield 2-0 and is now first in the league, Arsenal beat Godoy Cruz 1-0 and Union won 2-0 against Rafaela.

Independiente took the lead after just 35 seconds, with Patricio Vidal handed an easy chance after a defensive blunder.

A curled free kick over the wall by Osmar Ferreyra increased Independiente's lead in the 7th, but Boca pulled one back six minutes later when Facundo Roncaglia headed in from short range.

Independiente extended its lead in the 33rd, when Farias scored with a diving header from a free kick swung in from the left, but Boca again responded, with club icon Juan Roman Riquelme pegging another goal back in first half injury time.

Roncaglia claimed his second and Boca's equalizer in the 52nd after a header from Santiago Silva rebounded off the post and into his path.

Pablo Ledesma put Boca into the lead in the 75th, when he headed in from near the penalty spot after making a late run into the box, and Boca was controlling possession and looked like it could score more.

Against the run of play, Farias headed his second in from a free kick and got a famous winner when he broke free and chipped the ball over the Boca keeper and into the net in the last play of the game.

The result leaves Boca in third place in the league, while Independiente remains in last place, with three points from its five games.

Two late goals were enough for leaders Tigre, with substitute Ezequiel Maggiolo opening the scoring in the 85th and Carlos Luna adding the second in second half injury time against Banfield.

In Friday's matches, Newell's defeated Colon 3-0 and Estudiantes won 1-0 against Lanus.

On Saturday, Argentinos and San Martin drew 1-1, Racing won 3-0 against All Boys and San Larenzo defeated Belgrano 2-1. Velez and Olimpo play Monday in the last match in round five.
