London, Sep 9: Portuguese footballer Raul Meireles has insisted he never wanted to leave Liverpool.
Meireles signed for Chelsea last month on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee reported to be in the region of 12 million pound.
The 28-year-old moved to Chelsea only because of Andre Villas-Boas, who was his manager at Porto.
“When I was in Porto, I knew I wanted to go and the club wanted to sell me - - and I made the right choice last year to come to Liverpool,” the Sun quoted Meireles, as saying.
“This year, though, was different because I knew I didn't want to go. I felt Liverpool's new owners didn't want to sell me, but when I knew that Chelsea and Andre wanted me, it convinced me,” he added.
