Sydney Jul13: Former Leeds and Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell has been named Australia's greatest footballer in voting by fans, players and media.
Awards announced on Thursday also named the country's greatest players by position. Kewell was joined by several teammates on the Socceroos—Fulham's Mark Schwarzer as Australia's best goalkeeper, captain Lucas Neill, Everton star Tim Cahill and retired defender Craig Moore.
All featured at the last two World Cup finals while Mark Viduka, who competed at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, was also included.
Kewell was in Britain and did not collect the award in person. In June, he quit the Melbourne Victory in Australia's A-League for family reasons.
More than 15,000 public votes were cast to determine the awards.
