Ukraine, Jun16: While Sweden is headed for an early exit at the European Championship, coach Erik Hamren is convinced the team is going places in the future.
The Swedes were eliminated from Euro 2012 after a second straight loss on Friday, but Hamren said the performance against England showed the team “is heading in the right direction.”
However, Hamren said Sweden needs to get better in the decisive moments of games in order to compete with the top nations after conceding five goals in two matches against Ukraine and England.
Hamren said the team didn't have luck on its side in Kiev, but “the really good teams create their own luck ... and we're not quite there yet.”
Hamren says he hopes to stay on for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
