Lisbon, Portugal, Aug 28 : Gil Vicente beat Academica 2-0 on Saturday for the promoted club's first win of the Portuguese league.
Midfielder Andre Cunha headed home a free kick by Richard to put Gil Vicente in front in the 69th minute, and Brazilian defender Claudio added the second from the penalty spot in the 88th after Adrien Silva handled in the area.
It was Academica's first loss in three games of the new domestic campaign.
On Sunday, it's: Rio Ave vs. Olhanense, Feirense vs. Pacos Ferreira, Guimaraes vs. Beira Mar and Sporting vs. Maritimo.
Benfica is at Nacional on Monday, while Setubal hosts Braga.
Defending champion FC Porto, which lost the European Super Cup on Friday to Barcelona, plays Leiria on Sept. 6. AP
