Rio De Janeiro,July 30: Brazilian champion Fluminense has fired coach Abel Braga following the team's fifth straight loss in the Brazilian league.
Monday's decision comes a day after Fluminense's 2-0 defeat to Gremio in Porto Alegre, a result that left the team in the relegation zone with only nine points from as many matches.
Club president Peter Siemsen says the change was needed to allow Fluminense to try and get back into contention to win its second consecutive league title. The club trails leader Cruzeiro by nine points.
Fluminense didn't immediately announce a replacement for the 60-year-old Braga, who had been with the club since 2011.
Fluminense is led by Brazil striker Fred and former Chelsea and Portugal playmaker Deco.
