BRASILIA, Brazil : Brazil striker Fred finally got his first goal at the World Cup. And he thinks it might have something to do with the new mustache.
The much-criticized striker scored Brazil's third goal in a 4-1 win over Cameroon on Monday, helping his team reach the second round.
Fred found the net with a 49th-minute header after a left-flank cross by defender David Luiz, but he said there was more to it: "It was a mustache goal."
He said the ball touched the mustache before going into the net.
Teammate Neymar said he was the one who told Fred to leave the mustache, predicting it might turn things in his favor.
Neymar said that "it never fails," adding he knew Fred would score if he wore a mustache against Cameroon.
