Warsaw, Oct 18: England stumbled for the second time in World Cup qualifying, with Kamil Glik scoring on a header in the 70th minute to give Poland a 1-1 tie Wednesday in a match delayed by a day due to a waterlogged field in a stadium with a retractable roof.
Glik scored after goalkeeper Joe Hart failed to punch away a corner kick.
“I didn't get there, and the lad has done a good header,” Hart said. “It's my fault.”
Wayne Rooney put England in front in the 31st, when captain Steven Gerrard's corner kick bounced off his shoulder and was helped into the net by Lukasz Piszczek.
England (2-0-2), held to a 1-1 tie by Ukraine at Wembley lasy month, has eight points and leads Europe Group H by one point over Montenegro (2-0-1).
The field became waterlogged Tuesday when officials failed to close the roof at $600 million National Stadium.
“The pitch was quite difficult,” England manager Roy Hodgson said. “It was a soggy pitch. The ball wasn't moving well.”
