El Salvador federation president Carlos Mendez Cabezas read Israel's letter to reporters Monday. Israel had criticized some journalists, saying when they “have a microphone in their hand they feel the need to exercise power they surely do not have at home.”
Mendez Cabezas said he hoped to contact Israel, who is from Uruguay, and convince him to change his mind.
El Salvador has only one point from its first two World Cup qualifying matches. Mexico leads the group with six points and Costa Rica has four.
