New York, Aug 18: 10-foot tall silver statues featuring an under-wear clad David Beckham were unveiled in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco on Thursday.
The larger-than-life Beckhams by H&M celebrate the soccer star's bodywear collection for the Swedish retailer.
The collection includes underwear, t-shirts and sleepwear. New products will be added to the collection later this year.
"David was involved in all the marketing aspects in addition to the design process so he was really excited.
"We launched this collection in February in London and he was there. In our press party we had these statues and we just figured that he's a fashion icon, a style icon and the Statue of David is an iconic feature, an iconic statue, so we just thought it would be a fun and quirky play off the Statue of David," said H&M spokesperson Jennifer Ward.
Fans are encouraged to snap a picture with a statue to receive store discounts and a chance to win a mini statue, signed David Beckham underwear or a $1,000 H&M shopping spree.
Beckham was a champion of the London Olympics that just ended, driving the torch to Olympic Stadium in a speedboat along the Thames.
He had hoped to play for Britain's soccer team, but he wasn't included in the squad.
