Mexico City, Aug 29: Adrian Cortes scored a second-half goal as Cruz Azul claimed a 2-1 victory in the Mexico City derby at 10-man Pumas on Sunday to move into first place in the Mexican first division.

Gerardo Flores opened for Cruz Azul in the 18th minute before Martin Bravo leveled with a header four minutes later for the defending champion.

Pumas' Luis Fuentes was sent off in the 58th and Cruz Azul took advantage with Cortes' winner in the 75th.

Elsewhere, Guadalajara lost for the first time in the Apertura season, going down 2-0 against San Luis, while third-place Tigres are now the only unbeaten team after seven rounds after winning 1-0 away at Atlas.

Monterrey is fourth following its 2-0 victory against Santos.

Later Sunday, Tijuana drew 1-1 with Queretaro and Puebla shared a scoreless draw with Morelia.

In other weekend results, Pachuca won 2-0 against America, Atlante beat Estudiantes Tecos 2-1 and Jaguares drew 1-1 with Toluca.

Two second-half goals from San Luis ended Chivas' unbeaten record, but the Guadalajara team is just one point back and has a game in hand on Cruz Azul. Michael Arroyo and Macnelly Torres got the goals for San Luis.

A goal on 21 minutes by Damian Alvarez on Saturday night was enough to give Tigres victory against an Atlas side battling against relegation.

Tigres remains unbeaten with three wins and four draws from their seven games.

Fourth-place Monterrey defeated Santos in front of a stadium filled with supporters dressed in white. The gesture was a message of peace in the wake of last Thursday's attack on a casino in the northern city in which 53 people died.

On the field, Monterrey took the lead in the 28th with a strike from Luis Perez and capped off the win with a headed goal by Chilean Humberto Suazo on 67 minutes despite losing defender Jose Basanta to a 41st-minute red card.

Monterrey has 12 points while Santos remains on seven points.

In front of a full stadium in Pachuca, two goals from Ecuadorean Felix Borja increased the pressure on America's coach Carlos Reinoso.

America has only eight points and is in 10th place while Pachuca moved into sixth place on 10 points.

Atlante recorded its second win of the season against relegation-threatened Estudiantes Tecos with goals from Mario Ortiz on 25 minutes and Osvaldo Martinez in the 52nd.

Estudiantes Tecos' Marcelo Alatorre was sent off in the 62nd but Estudiantes did pull a goal back in injury time from Eduardo Lillingston.

On Friday evening, Colombian Franco Arizala opened the scoring for Jaguares against Toluca in the 67th, but Ivan Alonso equalized for Pachuca four minutes later and the game finished 1-1. AP
