Chester (Pennsylvania), May 14: Kenny Cooper scored in the 78th minute to lift the New York Red Bulls past the Philadelphia Union 3-2 in Major League Soccer on Sunday.
Joel Lindpere and Markus Holgersson also scored for the Red Bulls, who won their fourth match in a row and moved into first place in the Eastern Conference with 22 points. Sporting Kansas City is one point behind New York.
Lionard Pajoy scored both goals for the Union, who dropped their third straight despite scoring twice for the first time this season.
In Sunday's other match, the San Jose Earthquakes salvaged a late 1-1 draw with Chivas USA.
After Lindpere opened the scoring, Philadelphia equalized in the 31st minute with Pajoy's first goal.
Midfielder Freddy Adu was sent off in the 44th minute for diving in the box—his second yellow card of the match.
Pajoy put the Union ahead 2-1 in the 46th minute, before Holgersson leveled it at 2-2 in the 68th with a header following a perfect corner from Brandon Barklage.
Cooper's winner was his ninth of the season, bringing him level with teammate Thierry Henry, who was out with a right hamstring strain. San Jose's Chris Wondolowski leads the league with 11.
At Santa Clara, California, second-half substitute Alan Gordon scored in the final minute of regulation to give San Jose the draw with Chivas USA.
Gordon headed in a perfectly placed cross pass off the left wing from rookie midfielder Sam Garza.
San Jose moved into sole possession of second place in the Western Conference, three points behind Real Salt Lake.
Chivas USA withstood San Jose's pressure for nearly the entire afternoon, trying to defend a fourth minute goal from Jose Correa.
Correa, a 19-year-old Colombian signed by Chivas USA last month, curled a shot to the far post from 7 yards out for his first MLS goal.
