Margao, Nov 19: Churchill Brothers are looking to bounce back after their first defeat against Mohun Bagan, when they take on Mumbai FC tomorrow in the sixth round of the I-League football tournament at Nehru Stadium here.
Bagan ended Churchill Brothers' unbeaten run by defeating them 3-0 and pushing the latter to the fourth position with 10 points from five matches, five points adrift from table topper Dempo Sports Club. The Goa outfit has a good chance to win tomorrow's game against Mumbai FC, who are low of confidence after getting thrashing from Dempo, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.
“The manner in which we lost to Mohun Bagan was disappointing. We had the lion's share of exchanges and scoring opportunities, but could not translate them into goals. The boys know where they have erred and hope they will not repeat the mistakes,” said Churchill coach Manuel Gomes.
“Our opponent are a good side but have lost their way after a good beginning (beating Air India) and then losing next few matches. They have the potential to turn things around on their given day and we must be on guard.” On the other hand, Mumbai FC needs to put up a collective performance if they are to stage an upset against Churchill, who will have a strong home support.
“The team is picking up and need sometime to settle down. In our last match (against Salgaocar Sports Club), we played well but failed to utilise chances that came our way and even wasted a penalty,” Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil said. “Tomorrow is another tough match, but we are prepared for it. Hopefully, the team plays to its potential and wins to get their confidence back,” he said.
