Liverpool, England: Burnley sank to the bottom of the Premier League after losing 1-0 at Everton on Saturday, with midfielder Ashley Barnes compounding the team's struggles by being sent off.
Burnley was already trailing to Kevin Mirallas's 29th-minute goal when Barnes was dismissed on the stroke of half time following two ill-advised challenges.
Barnes was first booked for a wild swipe at James McCarthy as the Everton midfielder was racing away from him midway through the half. Referee Mike Jones allowed play to continue before returning to show a yellow card.
And when Barnes slid into Seamus Coleman just before the break Jones issued another yellow card followed by a red.
Barnes now misses next week's crucial match against Leicester, which climbed off the bottom by beating Swansea on Saturday.
