Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sept 12: Boca Juniors moved into sole possession of first place in Argentina's Apertura tournament by beating San Martin 1-0 on Sunday thanks to a 75th-minute goal from Walter Erviti.

Boca improved to 14 points from six games, one ahead of Rafaela.

Lanus could move even on points with Boca with a victory in its Monday game against Argentinos Juniors.

In other results on Sunday, Arsenal defeated Banfield 1-0, Belgrano beat Independiente 2-0 and Union defeated Velez Sarsfield 1-0.

Boca is trying to win its first title since taking the Apertura championship in 2008; an unusually long spell without a trophy for one of Argentina's most popular clubs.

Emilio Zelaya scored for Arsenal in the sixth minute in the victory over Banfield. Banfield has lost its first six matches; a steep fall for a club that won the Apertura title in 2009.

Belgrano defeated Independiente 2-0, with both goals from Cesar Pereyra.

Paulo Rosales' 87th-minute goal provided the winner for Union over Velez.

In Friday and Saturday matches it was : Rafaela 0, Newell's 0; Colon 3, San Lorenzo 1; Godoy Cruz 6, All Boys 1; Tigre 3, Estudiantes 1; Racing 1, Olimpo 0.

In Godoy Cruz 6-1 win over All Boys, Ruben Ramirez scored twice with other goals from Leandro Caruso, Diego Villar and Jorge Curbelo. All Boys' Emmanuel Perea also scored an own-goal. Eduardo Dominguez got All Boys only goal.

Three different scorers hit the mark for Tigre in its 3-1 victory over Estudiantes: Carlos Luna, Diego Morales and Roman Martinez. Tigre's Carlos Casteglione also notched an own-goal.
