Dubai: Ex-Rangers and Australia football captain Craig Moore was arrested in Dubai after he got into a drunken brawl with a taxi driver over a fare of less than $14, a local newspaper reported Monday.

Moore, who was arrested Wednesday, has been released on bail and is expected to appear in court this week to face charges of alcohol consumption, brawling and resisting police.

According to The National newspaper, police were called to settle a dispute over a 50 dirhams ($13.61) taxi fare. Moore reportedly then pushed a police officer.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and local police have declined to identify the 34-year-old Australian man who is facing the charges. The Australian Embassy in Abu Dhabi referred all calls to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Canberra.

Moore retired from international football after representing Australia at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. He made his name as a rugged defender in 12 seasons with Rangers, winning numerous championships with the Scottish club, and played for Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Borussia Moenchengladbach, and Greek club Kavala.

He had a stint with Brisbane Roar last season in Australia's domestic A-League competition. AP
