Kolkata: Atletico de Kolkata on Friday announced the signing of Canadian forward Iain Hume, the reigning Indian Super League (ISL )football tournament champions' first foreign recruit for the upcoming season.
The Scottish-born former Canadian international, who represented last season's runners-up Kerala Blasters FC, had impressed by scoring five goals.
"I look forward to work with Hume this year. His last year's performance and club commitments surely must be keeping him match ready when we embark on our quest for the title defence," ATK head coach Antonio Lopez Habas said in a statement.
Team co-owner Sanjiv Goenka said they're looking forward to get the best possible line-up with Hume on board.
Welcoming Hume to the Kolkata franchise, he said: "It is our endeavour to assimilate the best possible team. I am sure we will again make the city and our fans proud."
The second edition of the ISL will kick off in Chennai on October 3 with a match between Chennaiyin FC and ATK and the final will be held on December 20.
Hume began his youth career at Tranmere Rovers and moved to the senior ranks in due course.
His best season for Tranmere was during the 2004-05 campaign where he finished top scorer with 16 goals.
He then made an expensive move to Leicester City and achieved success there followed by another pricey switch to Barnsley.
Hume has subsequently played for Preston North End, Donacaster Rovers and Fleetwood Town and enjoyed modest success.
On the international front, he dazzled at the 2001 Fifa World Youth Championship in Argentina and made his senior debut for Canada in a February 2003 friendly against Libya.
