Berlin: Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has pulled out of World Cup qualifiers against Austria and the Faeroe Islands because of his ankle injury.
The German Football Federation says Schweinsteiger sustained a right ankle injury during Bayern Munich's 1-1 draw with Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Tuesday.
Schweinsteiger didn't play in Bayern's UEFA Super Cup win on penalties over Chelsea on Friday.
Germany, which tops World Cup qualifying Group C, plays Austria in Munich on Sept. 6 and the Faeroe Islands in Torshavn four days later.
