Madrid: Real Madrid made their own piece of history when they beat Malaga 2-1 win in the Spanish La Liga for a record 16th consecutive win.

The victory Saturday night not only ensures Carlo Ancelotti's side remain top of the BBVA Primera Liga, but gives the club a new record of 16 consecutive wins, beating the past record, which had been set under the reigns of Miguel Munoz and Jose Mourinho, reports Xinhua.

Goals from Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale gave Madrid a hard fought win and left Ancelotti with reasons to be cheerful after setting a new club best.

"I am happy," said the coach Sunday, adding, it was "a dream. We are very happy about the run. I hope it continues."

The Italian insisted his club's form was not down to him, but to his squad of players.

"I am lucky enough to coach a fantastic team, with fantastic players, at a fantastic club. My admiration is for the players," he said, before warning it was "just part of a very long season."

The surprising thing about the win is that it came without a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo, but Ancelotti was still delighted with the Portuguese international.

"He did a fantastic job and was the key to the match. It's strange that he did not score, but he provided two assists," he explained.

"I'm surprised by the defensive attitude that players like (Tony) Kroos, Isco, James and Bale showed. The team works together and sacrifices itself," he said.

Ancelotti's record should continue with Real Madrid entertaining lower league Cornella in the Cup in midweek, before playing Celta next weekend in the league.
