Paris Saint-Germain says midfielder Marco Verratti was stopped by police this week for driving over the alcohol limit.
PSG says Verratti was "subjected to a roadside check in his car, which showed a blood-alcohol level higher than the limit allowed for drivers on probation" after recently obtaining their driver's license.
PSG says the Italy international "made a spontaneous apology to the coach and the management of Paris Saint-Germain" and will be "deprived of a portion of his monthly ethics bonus."
The incident, which happened late Tuesday or early Wednesday, comes with PSG facing a crucial match at Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday.
