France: Wales’s fan Gareth Tansey’s decision to have a ‘few’ drinks before his country’s side squared off against Slovakia in Euro 2016, the first major tournament the country qualified for in over five decades, turned out to be a disaster for him.
Tansey was found taking a nap in the stadium while Chris Coleman’s side secured a 2-1 victory over Slovakia in Bordeaux.
While everybody around him was cheering and celebrating, the drunken fan fell asleep even before the game started and missed part of his country’s victory at the Euro 2016. He was continuously photographed by nearby spectators and in no time his pictures were doing rounds on social media.
However, right before the game, the decision to drink 12 pints of beer proved to be a costly affair for the 34 year old ho hails from Hakin, Milford. Gareth specially travelled all the way to France hoping he would get tickets for the game after Wales qualified for their first major tournament in 57 years.
“I don't really know how to describe the day I had, I'd had quite a few drinks before the game and we were still topping up from the night before to be honest,” he explained.
“We were staying near the stadium and ended up in a bar by the team hotel so just carried on drinking there before the match. “We must have had about 10 or 12 pints before polishing off a bottle of wine so it probably wasn't the best idea.
“I must have fallen asleep in my seat around half hour before the game and didn't come round until half time.
“My mates didn't show me the pictures until after the game and I couldn't believe it.”
These pictures are creating a buzz among the fans who are sharing it religiously, leaving Gareth embarrassed and regretful at the same time who could not even witness the massive victory for his country, thanks to all the pints of beer he chugged before the game.
