After a year-long season of pleading and requesting, German International Mesut Ozil has finally signed a three and a half year contract with Arsenal. The midfield playmaker was highly speculated to leave the North London club and join forces with Manchester United, but with manager Arsene Wenger signing Pierre Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, a swap for Henrikh Mkhitaryan by sending troubled Alexis Sanchez the other way, has been a key reason to convince the German World Cup winner to sign a new contract.
After 18 months of speculations, Ozil finally pens down a new deal with Arsenal that will keep him with the club till 2021 as his existing contract with the Gunners had been due to expire by the end of the season.
Ozil took to Instagram to express his happiness as he wrote '#YaGunnersYa .... ooh yaaa. Proud to announce: I signed dat thing 3 more years with @Arsenal! It's been one of the most important decisions of my footballing career and that's why I had to think hard and talk with everyone who's important to me... Good things take time! In the end I let my heart decide. As I always said, I feel at home here and I'm highly motivated to achieve big things in the next few years. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner!
As media reports suggest, Ozil shunned out offers from Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain and FC Barcelona and also a huge offer from the Chinese Super League club Guangzhou worth 25 Million Pounds a year.
Ozil committing his future with Arsenal is a huge boost for Wenger following Sanchez's departure to rivals United last week, especially with the Gunners languishing in sixth place in the Premier League.
With Wenger bolstering his attacking unit with new signings, the North London club will aim to focus on a top-four spot after suffering a humiliating loss to bottom-placed Swansea City.
Arsenal will next play Everton on February 3.
