Pune: India no. 1 Varun Madan justified his ranking when he lifted the title in the 1st Akshay Gohad Six Red Snooker championships here by drubbing Ketan Chawla 5-1 in a one-sided final here today.
The 24-year-old top seed from Delhi outclassed Chawla from Bhopal in a 90-minute match to claim the top honours in the championship hosted jointly by the PYC Hindu Gymkhana and Deccan Gymkhana.
In the morning semi finals, Madan got the better of Railways player Laxman Rawat 5-2 while Chawla edged out Rahul Sachdev of Mumbai 5-3.
Madan received the winners' trophy and a cheque for Rs 70,000 while runner-up Chawla became richer by Rs 40,000.
