Tokyo: Heading into the final days of the race to host the 2020 Olympics, Tokyo organizers say public support for the bid has risen to 92 percent.
Tokyo 2020 organizers didn't say how or when the poll was conducted but said the newest figures, up from 70 percent in the previous survey, suggest momentum is building for the bid.
Bid leader Tsunekazu Takeda says “the latest survey result underlines the nation's passion for sport.”
The IOC will select the 2020 host on Sept. 7 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Istanbul and Madrid are also in the race.
Tokyo's bid to host the 2016 Games was hampered by lukewarm public support but organizers this time have worked hard to raise the numbers and benefited from Japan's strong showing at the London Olympics.
