Martine Wiltshire, then known as Martine Wright, lost both her legs in the July 7, 2005, attacks that killed 52 commuters and four suicide bombers. She took up sports as part of her rehabilitation.
Wiltshire has become a prominent advocate for sports, but team officials made it clear that she needed to earn her place just like anyone else. She was named Wednesday to the team. The Paralympics are being held from Aug. 29 to Sept. 9.
London Mayor Boris Johnson paid tribute to the team at City Hall, declaring they demonstrate the power of sport.
