Shillong: The 12th South Asian Games (SAG) will be held in Guwahati and Shillong from January 10 to 22 next year and preparations were on for the multi-sporting event in both states.
"The South Asian Games will be held from January 10 to 22 in Guwahati and Shillong," Meghalaya sports secretary F R Kharkongor said, adding the state will host seven disciplines, including archery, boxing, wushu, taekwondo, table tennis and badminton and Assam would host 13 other disciplines.
Preparation for the Games has already begun in Meghalaya, Kharkongor said.
The SAG would see participation of around 2,500 athletes from the eight member-countries -- Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The last edition of the SAG was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2010.
