Jeju (Korea): Indian boxers Shamjetsabam Sarjubala and Saweety notched up contrasting victories today to reach the semifinals and assure themselves of a medal each at the AIBA Women's World Championships, here.
Sarjubala (48kg) started the proceedings with a dominating 3-0 win over Suguro Aldriani of Indonesia in the weight category quarterfinal, while Saweety (81kg) followed it up with a 2-1 win over Marsic Anamarija of Croatia in another quarterfinal bout.
However, boxers Pavitra and Kavita could not proceed further as they lost to their respective opponents.
In the 64 kg weight category, Pavitra lost to Beliakova Anstasiia of Russia 0-3, while Kavita too succumbed to a similar fate against Magomedalieva Zenfira of Russia in the ᄝ kg weight category.
Commenting on the splendid performance of the boxers, Sandeep Jajodia, President Boxing India, said, "Our boxers have great potential, they have prepared well and have dominated their opponents to assure medals at the AIBA Women's World Championships Jeju 2014.
"I am confident that they will continue their winning streak and will earn laurels for the nation."
