Incheon: Indian hockey captain Sardar Singh led the country's Asian Games contingent at the Opening Ceremony held at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium here Friday.

Fireworks lit up the sky here after a glittering sound and light show enthralled the packed stadium.

Schoolchildren from South Korea holding rings started first act of the evening, followed by a visual narrative on the creation of the universe.

A ship sailed through the stadium telling the story of how the continent of Asia was created, then separated with a well choreographed routine performed by a dance troupe.

In continuation, how the sea connected the continent with the rest of the world was depicted.

Gangnam style performer PSY and pianist Lang Lang are among those to regale the jam-packed audience of 62,000 later in the event.

India has sent a 679-member contingent for the 17th Asiad which comprises 516 athletes and 163 coaches and support staff.

India will be participating in 28 disciplines as against 35 last time in the 2010 Guangzhou Games.

India had won 14 golds, 17 silvers and 34 bronzes to finish sixth at the 16th Asiad four years ago in the Chinese port city Guangzhou.
