New Delhi: The Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) Wednesday retained Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu as the chief national coach till the 2016 Rio Olympics.

First appointed coach in 1993, Sandhu has ably served for almost two decades during which time Indian boxers have made ground-breaking progress in the international arena including winning the country's first Olympic and first World Championship medal among many other achievements.

A committee was constituted under the chairmanship of IBF president Abhishek Matoria to select the chief national coach. The committee, comprising I.D. Nanavati (IBF vice president) and Naraottam Singh Rawat (Ring Officials Commission chairman), unanimously agreed on Sandhu.

The candidature was therefore agreed and approved by the committee and SAI.
