Neeraj Chopra is back! After missing the Golden Spike meet last month to keep himself fit for the Paris Olympics, India's Golden boy Neeraj Chopra might be playing his final preparatory competition ahead of the Paris Olympics as he is set to take the centre stage at the Paavo Nurmi Games. Chopra, who won a Silver at the Doha Diamond League and a Gold at the Federation Cup, felt something in his adductor muscle while training and withdrew from the Golden Spike meet.
The Paavo Nurumi Games in Finland will not only be a fitness test for Chopra ahead of the Olympics but also a test of where he stands in terms of his competition as who's who of men's javelin will be taking part including the two-time champion Anderson Peters, Oliver Helander, Toni Keranen and Lassi Etelatalo of Finland, Max Dehning of Germany, Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago and Adrian Mardare of Moldova. It is a stacked line-up and Chopra will have his task cut out.
Chopra might play in the Paris Diamond League on July 7 before the Olympics but at Paavo Nurmi, his first objective will be to get through the event unscathed and let everyone know that he is there. The last time Chopra took part in the Finland Games, he had recorded his then-personal best of 89.30m.
