New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday congratulated Poorna Malavath and Anand Kumar, two teenagers who recently climbed Mount Everest.
"The prime minister congratulated the young achievers, and remarked they had achieved a great feat at a tender age," said a statement issued by the prime minister's office.
Malavath, a school student in Nizamabad, Telangana, became the youngest female in the world to reach the world's highest peak May 25, 2014, at the age of 13 years and 11 months.
Kumar reached the summit the same day. He studies in the Social Welfare School in Khammam, Telangana.
Modi later tweeted his picture with the young achievers.
"With youngsters who scaled Mt. Everest. At a young age, they reached the top of the world. We are very proud of them," Modi tweeted.
The two climbers were trained and mentored by Shekhar Babu, a Tenzing Norgay awardee, who has scaled many peaks including Mt. Everest, the statement added.
