Kuala Lumpur, Sept 26: The Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar on Sunday, warned its athletes participating in upcoming Commonwealth Games to take necessary prevention against the deadly dengue fever.
"While the sports village is well-designed and the facilities good, the only worrying situation is the monsoon rain and the escalating number of dengue cases in New Delhi," he was quoted as saying by a local news agency.
Tunku Imran stated that Malaysian athletes must be wary of the mosquitoes "stinging attack" which could hurt their chances to win medals.
About 300 Malaysian athletes will participate in a range of sports events including aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton and boxing.
There were also reports that the Malaysian athletes didn't get proper sleep last night as workers were busy cleaning up the adjacent areas. The noise due to the cleanliness drive hampered their sleep.
The Games has been marred by controversies as nations threatened to pull out amid worries about security, a bridge collapse and the state of the facilities.
The most vocal complaints focused on the athletes' village, which was described as "uninhabitable," as photos emerged of filthy, leaking toilets, stained and dirty showers, and a bed with muddy dog paw prints on it. PTI
