Birmingham: India's Ajay Jayaram and Anand Pawar registered straight game wins to progress to the second round of the men's singles qualifying round of the prestigious All England Championship badminton tournament, here Tuesday.
While Jayaram beat Chinese Taipei's Tzu Wei Wang 21-13 21-14 in 32 minutes, Pawar took exactly the same time to get the better of American Sattawat Pongnairat 21-17 21-11 in his first round encounter.
But to the dismay of the Indian fans, Jayaram and Pawar will clash against each other in the next qualification round later today.
Meanwhile, Indian shuttlers did not have the best of outings in the men's doubles event as the two pairs in action today crashed out in the opening round of the qualifiers.
D Guru Prasad and Venkatesh Prasad were shown the door 9-21 11-21 in just 19 minutes by Indonesian pair of Markis Kido and Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra, while the other Indian duo S Sanjeeth and Jagdish lost 16-21 10-21 against Dutch combination of Jacco Arends and Jelle Maas.
