Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Wednesday doubled the prize money for players who win medals in the World Cup and world championships and also raised the prize money for Bhim and Arjuna awardees from the state.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced that prize money for those winning gold, silver and bronze medals in the World Cup or World championships for both general and para-athletes would be Rs.10 lakh, Rs.8 lakh and Rs.6 lakh respectively as against Rs.5 lakh, Rs.4 lakh and Rs.3 lakh till now.
He said that Bhim awardees would now get an Rs.5 lakh instead of Rs.2 lakh.
Arjuna awardees belonging to the state would be given Rs.5 lakh as against Rs.2 lakh earlier.
Bhim awards are given by Haryana government in recognition of outstanding performance by state players while Arjuna awards are conferred by the central government on outstanding international and national players.
Hooda congratulated wrestlers Amit and Bajrang who bagged silver and bronze medals in world cup wrestling recently.
"Both players had brought laurels for the state and the country. It is a pride moment for the state that India got two medals in the championship which have been won by Haryana players," Hooda said here.
