Lucknow: A woman boxer was seriously injured when she fell off a moving train following a scuffle with a robber in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad district. She has been shifted to New Delhi for better treatment, said authorities Friday.

The Delhi-based woman boxer took on the robber Wednesday night, but fell from Farakka Express. She was shifted to New Delhi late Thursday for treatment.

Simran Verma was injured late Wednesday when she fell from the moving train in Faizabad in a scuffle with the robber who tried to snatch her bag and flee, Government Railway Oolice said Friday.

She confronted the robber and in the scuffle that ensued, she fell from the train and seriously injured her legs.

The incident took place near the Modha railway crossing on the outskirts of Faizabad.

Verma was returning from a boxing championship at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

Police said she was sent to New Delhi by Kaifiyat Express for better treatment.

Her teammates, Pawan, Sagar and Surendra accompanied her, a railway official said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Railways) R.S. Gautam said that police were trying to apprehend the attacker.

The sportswoman said she had a tablet and more than Rs.30,000 in cash in her bag.
