Deepthi Jeevanji, Neeraj Yadav shine on Day 2 of Hangzhou Asian Para Games; India's medal count swells to 34

China is currently occupying the top position on the points table in the ongoing Hangzhou Asian Para Games with 67 gold, 53 silver and 45 bronze medals. India is fifth with nine gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze.

Quartermiller Deepthi Jeevanji and canoeist Prachi Yadav claimed a gold medal each on day 2 of the ongoing Para Asian Games in Hangzhou, China to take India's medal tally to 34.

Prachi's achievement is a historic one as she became the first Indian to clinch a para canoe gold at Asiad. She bettered her performance from Monday when she claimed a silver in the canoe VL2 category and won gold in the KL2 event on Tuesday, October 24. The 28-year-old canoeist from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, clocked 54.962 to bring laurels to the nation.

Quartermiller Deepthi also impressed with her stupendous performance in the women's T20 400m category and was good enough to win the gold medal. Makanahalli Shankarappa Sharath also claimed a gold medal for the country after sealing a podium finish with victory in the Men's 5000m T13 event. He clocked 20:18.90 to leave the rest of the contenders behind.

The fourth and final gold for the nation on day 2 came after Neeraj Yadav emerged victorious in the men's F54/55/56 discus throw competition. Neeraj recorded a historic throw as his effort measured 38.56m which is a Games record. India ensured all three podium finishes in the event as Yogesh Kathuniya and Muthuraja secured silver and bronze respectively.
