Ghaziabad: Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar on Tuesday said if the budding wrestlers are provided better facilities, especially in villages, India could end up winning more medals than China in top international events.
"Had the government ever thought of promoting sport of wrestling in villages, India could have won more gold medals than that of China," said Sushil during the closing ceremony of 6th Baldev Dangal Mahotsav at the Sadarpur village.
Sushil, who bagged a bronze in 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver in 2012 London Games, said that the youngsters needed to be given more support and advanced training so that they could pursue the sport.
"Several eligible young boys and girls who could have wrestled at the international levels are out in the cities in search of employment with meager salaries. But if the government can provide better training facilities, the young wrestling aspirants could fetch more accolades for India," said Sushil.
