Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday announced cash awards for Asian Games medalists Seema Punia and Narsingh Pancham Yadav.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced a cash award of Rs 50 lakh to Punia, who bagged a gold medal in discus throw with her personal best of 61.03 metres, an official spokesman said here.
A cash award of Rs 15 lakh was also announced for Narsingh Yadav, who won bronze in men's 74 kg freestyle wrestling in the Asian Games.
While Yadav's village is near Varanasi in eastern UP, Punia is a native of Haryana but her in-laws belong to Sakori village in Meerut district.
Earlier, a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh was announced for ace shooter Jitu Rai, who had won gold medal in the 50 mts pistol event.
